1 Chronicles 20
Daily Devotional from 1 Chronicles 20--
Verse 1
In the spring of the year, the time when kings go out to battle, Joab led out the army and ravaged the country of the Ammonites and came and besieged Rabbah. But David remained at Jerusalem. And Joab struck down Rabbah and overthrew it.
Such a short chapter, but it covers a vast period of time - highlighting victory after victory. Yet the most striking thing about this chapter is not what it says, but what it leaves unsaid.
There is no mention of David’s sin with Bathsheba. There’s no lingering over his failures. The Chronicler doesn’t even mention it anywhere in his work. Instead, he sets our eyes on what God was doing among His people: victory, deliverance, and faithfulness in battle.
Isn’t it good to know that God’s story can move forward even when ours falls apart?
