Nehemiah 8
Daily Devotional from Nehemiah 8--
Verse 10
“Then he said to them, ‘Go and eat what is rich, drink what is sweet, and send portions to those who have nothing prepared, since today is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, because the joy of the LORD is your strength.’”
The words of the LORD were being read to the Hebrew community for the first time in a long time. As the people listened, they began weeping for they realized how far away they’ve been from their Lord. But here they were commanded to celebrate instead of grieve, for they had been lost but now they are found. AND they were to make sure every person had what they needed to celebrate. No one was to be left out of the celebration.
The world around us can look bleak. Wars abound, prices inflate, governments over-reach, and people rebel, but as Christians, the joy of the LORD can carry us through the craziest world situations. We continue to celebrate the goodness of God, even when everything seems sad and depressing. Because the joy of the LORD is our strength.
What good thing from the LORD can you celebrate today? Find someone and celebrate with them. Celebration and joy are better in community.
