Psalm 86

Daily Devotional from Psalm 86–

Verse 11b (CSB)
“…Give me an undivided mind to fear your name…”

Oh how our minds can be so divided. So many things are fighting for our attention—social media, the news, our families, our kids, our spouses, our jobs… the list is endless.
This Psalm has a divided mind, in one David is crying out to God in despair, and in the other, he is working hard to contend for his faith in God’s goodness. Verse 11, I think, is the heart of his prayer. David is pleading that God would help transform his mind to God’s way of thinking.

How has your mind been divided lately? What are you dwelling on that is taking up space? When you find your mind is in a divided space, pray something like the prayer below to help unite your mind back to the LORD.

Holy Spirit, let my mind trust you first and not focus on the problems ahead of me. Give me an undivided mind. You are the one who sees me. Settle my anxious thoughts so that I may know your good and perfect will. Help transform me by the renewing of my mind. Teach me your way and I will live in YOUR truth, for your faithful love for me is great and has rescued me from hell.
