Psalm 77
Daily Devotional from Psalm 77–
Verses 7-9
“Will the Lord reject forever? Will he never show his favor again? Has his unfailing love vanished forever? Has his promise failed for all time? Has God forgotten to be merciful?
Has he in anger withheld his compassion?”
Have you been there? It’s easy to say that God is here and loves us, even when we don’t feel him. But what happens when the rubber meets the road – when life hits hard? Tragedy. Suffering. Loss. When it’s too much to bear. When God seems to have turned away.
Today’s psalm gives us the answers.
1. Bring your grief to God. The psalmist doesn’t hide his pain. He is overwhelmed and he lets it show!
2. Ask the hard questions. God can handle our raw, honest sorrow. He’s not offended by our doubts.
3. Expand your view. Focusing on personal feelings like abandonment or rejection can trick us. They feel real, but they’re false.
4. Shift focus. In the midst of God’s silence, our psalmist decides in verse 11 to “remember the deeds of the Lord.”
Lord God, help us do this. When we hurt, please help us to know your presence – that you still love us – even (especially) when we can’t feel you.
