Psalm 71

Daily Devotional from Psalm 71–

Verse 9
“Do not cast me off in the time of old age; forsake me not when my strength is spent.”

King David had experienced family betrayal, betrayal of friends, destruction from enemies, condemnation, criticism, death of those he loved, destruction, and finally betrayal of his own body. And yet he turns to God. Don’t cast me off. Don’t forsake me. And God never abandoned him.

David knew to pray. He always chose the one source he knew was sure, stable, foundational, and protective. When my body says “no more,” when I feel totally helpless and unable to cope with what crumbles around me, when I feel completely alone in my pain, I, like David, am learning to run to the Rock of my Salvation, to the Source of my Strength, to the ONE who brings more mercy than I could deserve, and more kindness than I could possibly measure.

No matter what circumstance you are in today, will you look to the God who is gently saying, “Come to me and I will give you rest, peace that passes understanding, and strength for everything you need for today’s tasks.”
