Psalm 69
Daily Devotional from Psalm 69–
Verse 6
“Lord, the Lord Almighty, may those who hope in you not be disgraced because of me; God of Israel may those who seek you not be put to shame because of me.”
When I read this psalm, I cannot help but think of Christ. Christ is the ultimate intercessor, the one before the throne of God, our mediator. Scripture tells us that He prays for us (John 17:9, Romans 8:34). I often wonder what those prayers are like, and sometimes I think the Psalms give us a glimpse of that. They reveal that Jesus holds us close to His heart.
There are times when I become cynical or hopeless because of present suffering and hardship. It moves me to accuse God of not caring and being indifferent. But then I consider this: that Christ holds us so dear that He prays to the Father on our behalf, and I am able to dispel the lie. Jesus is presently asking the Father on our behalf for mercies new every morning, for life after death, for light despite darkness. Christ is moved for us, and even in His moments of deepest anguish, He cries out “Father forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing” (Luke 23.34).
