Job 24

Daily Devotional from Job 24--

Verse 13, 24a
“There are those who rebel against the light, who are not acquainted with its ways, and do not stay in its paths… they are exalted a little while, then are gone; they are brought low and gathered up as all others…”

To Job and to us, it appears that the ungodly prosper without consequence. They are murderers, thieves, and adulterers without penalty. They do their misdeeds in the darkness, thinking no one will see. Yet, they are lofty for a while, and then they are gone. There was no curse on Job, but these people are cursed, in life and in death. That is, unless they turn to Christ.

We need not be concerned with the flourishing of those who reject Christ. Instead, we rejoice in Jesus, our Savior. Without his shed blood and our confession of faith in him, we would have the same end. We are no more deserving of favor. Nevertheless, he extends his grace and mercy to those who believe (Ephesians 2:4-9, Hebrews 2:17, 4:15-16). Give all praise and thanksgiving to Jesus our Lord!
