Job 20

Daily Devotional from Job 20--

In Zophar’s second response to Job, we again see his very linear mindset that good people will have good lives, and wicked people will suffer. And when Zophar encountered a circumstance that could suggest otherwise–like Job’s suffering without a clear cause–he clung to the belief that only wicked people suffer. It’s certainly human nature to think that way, and even to believe that when we behave well, a good life is owed to us. But the Kingdom of God is an upside-down kingdom, and we can see in passages like James 1:2-18 that God actually uses suffering to grow people. Verses 2-3 say, “Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.”

Take some time to reflect today on whether you have a worldly mindset or a Kingdom mindset. Then, ask God to give you his thoughts!
