1 Kings 7
Daily Devotional from 1 Kings 7–
In this chapter, King Solomon is building his palace in extravagance and splendor! In some ways, this seems a little selfish. Why does he need all that for himself? But I’m going to go out on a limb here and suggest that this grand building project wasn’t about himself at all; it was about someone who was to come.
Remember who descended from the line of David? The greatest King of all time: Jesus. When I think about the promise God gave David in 2 Samuel 7 that his kingdom would be strong and secure forever, it makes sense that Solomon would build his home in this fashion. To me, it seems like he builds with expectation in preparation of something or someone far greater than himself. If that’s the case, of course his work would be done with excellence!
What a beautiful reminder of the royalty of our King, Jesus. He truly deserves the most extravagant, outrageous display of love. Do our hearts long to lavish this kind of love upon him? I encourage you to take some time today to ruminate on Jesus’ royalty and kingship. He truly is deserving of the highest praise we can offer!
