1 Kings 18
Daily Devotional from 1 Kings 18–
Verse 21
Then Elijah approached all the people and said “How long will you waver between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him. But if Baal, follow him.” But the people didn’t answer him a word.
We have idols vying for our worship every day. This isn’t just an ancient story that is fun for kids. Elijah is revealing our human tendency to reject the true God to worship ourselves and/or something other. It’s the story of Adam and Eve repackaged for a nation. Israel, under King Ahab are at a crossroads—who will they serve?
We are given the same choice. Will we reject the world and follow the narrow way of trusting the LORD? Or will we continue to give our allegiance to something else… our family/friends? Our nation? Our political party? Our own desires? Our own comfort and safety?
You cannot serve two masters. You will have to choose.
No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. — Jesus (Matthew 6:24)
