Numbers 36-Deuteronomy 1
Daily Devotional from Deuteronomy 1--
Verse 8
See, I have set the land before you. Go in and take possession of the land that the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give to them and to their offspring after them.
We see in the book of Deuteronomy, a repetition of events described in Exodus and Numbers. “Deutero” means “second”. We are visiting events and teachings a second time.
Why would God repeat Himself with an additional book of the Bible?
I can think of two reasons:
Repetition signifies importance.
Repetition helps us remember.
God wants us to remember what He has taught us and what He has done for us, as laid out in the Scriptures.
So how do we respond?
Spend more time in His Word. Enjoy its revelations - its history, unity, beauty, guidance, encouragement, challenges, comfort, and poetry. Talk with God about it. Join with your church in our daily Bible reading. Join a Bible discussion group. And don’t make the reading/discussion of the Bible just a mental exercise. Ask God how His Word applies to you personally and act upon it! He is with us, helping us along!
